It’s No Death Sentence!
Friday 6th January 2017
‘…that we would not trust in ourselves, but in God…’ 2 Corinthians 1:9 NAS
Paul was in one of those ‘really bad’ situations when he wrote: ‘We felt that the death sentence had been passed on us. But this happened so that we should rely, not on ourselves, but only on God…’ (2 Corinthians 1:9 GNT). ‘Death sentence.’ That’s pretty dramatic language! In court, sentencing comes when the evidence has been presented, the judge has ruled and the verdict is final. It looked like there was no way for Paul to survive; he was in a dead-end situation.
Is that where you are today? Don’t give up. What looked like the end of the story for Paul was really God saying, ‘Right, you can’t get yourself out of this, but I can. Let me help!’ That’s why Paul went on to say that through it all he learned not to trust in himself, but in God who ‘raises the dead.’ Think: when your hopes seem buried and you have nowhere to turn, isn’t that when God’s power is working strongest in your life?
You have a loving Heavenly Father you can call on. You can trust what he says and know that as you go through life with him, he will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3). You have a life-filled future!
So what now? Speak to your heavenly Father today. Trust him. Expect him to work and fight on your behalf and watch as your ‘death sentence’ situation turns around. Why? Because now you are beginning to trust the one who can really do something about it!
